1. Introduction
Reel Circle values your trust and is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, how long we retain certain information, and the choices you have regarding your information.
By creating an account or using Reel Circle, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
Account Information: Name, username, email address, phone number, password, profile photo, date of birth, and other information you provide when creating or maintaining your account.
Identity and Age Verification Information: To help protect the Reel Circle community, verify user identity, prevent fraudulent or impersonated accounts, and confirm that users meet our minimum age requirement, Reel Circle may require users to submit the front of a valid government-issued photo ID and take a verification selfie.
The government-issued photo ID and verification selfie are used to help confirm that the person creating or using the account is the person represented by the identification document and that the individual is at least 18 years old.
After identity and age verification is successfully completed, the uploaded government-issued ID image will be permanently deleted from our systems within 48 hours.
Reel Circle may retain the verification selfie while the user’s account remains active for account security, fraud prevention, impersonation and fake-account prevention, investigation of reported safety concerns, and protection of the Reel Circle community.
Reel Circle may also retain limited verification records, such as whether an account has been successfully verified and the date verification was completed.
Verification selfies and government-issued ID images are not displayed publicly to other Reel Circle users.
Content You Share: Photos, videos, comments, messages, fishing reports, trip information, and other content you post, upload, or send through Reel Circle.
Usage Data: Information about how you interact with Reel Circle, including features you use, content interactions, and engagement information.
Device Information: Device type, operating system, IP address, browser information, mobile network information, and similar technical information.
Location Data: General or precise location information when you authorize Reel Circle to access your device’s location or use location-based features. Certain features, including maps, nearby fishing trips, navigation, fishing reports, and saved fishing locations, may require location access.
Contacts: Information from your device’s contacts only if you choose to give Reel Circle permission to access your contacts for supported features.
3. How We Use Your Information
We may use information collected through Reel Circle to:
Create, maintain, and secure user accounts
Verify user identity and confirm users are at least 18 years old
Prevent impersonation, catfishing, fraudulent accounts, duplicate accounts, spam, abuse, and other security concerns
Investigate reported safety or security incidents
Enable fishing trips, social features, messaging, posting, maps, navigation, and other app functionality
Personalize content and user experiences
Provide location-based functionality when authorized
Send account notifications, service communications, and permitted promotional communications
Analyze app usage and improve Reel Circle’s performance, safety, and features
Enforce our Terms of Service and community policies
Comply with applicable laws and valid legal requests
4. Identity and Age Verification
Reel Circle is intended for individuals who are at least 18 years old.
To help enforce this requirement and improve community safety, Reel Circle may require users to complete an identity and age verification process.
Users may be required to:
Provide requested identifying information;
Upload the front of a valid government-issued photo ID; and
Take a verification selfie.
The submitted ID and selfie are used to help verify the user’s identity, confirm that the user is at least 18 years old, prevent fraudulent or impersonated accounts, and promote community safety.
Access to identity-verification information is restricted to authorized personnel and systems with a legitimate need to access the information for verification, security, safety, or compliance purposes.
Government-Issued ID Retention
Reel Circle does not retain government-issued ID images indefinitely.
After identity and age verification is successfully completed, the uploaded government-issued ID image will be permanently deleted from our systems within 48 hours.
If verification cannot be completed, Reel Circle may retain the submitted information for a limited period reasonably necessary to complete or resolve the verification process, investigate suspected fraud or misuse, or comply with applicable legal obligations.
Verification Selfie Retention
Unlike the government-issued ID image, Reel Circle may retain the verification selfie while the user’s account remains active.
The verification selfie may be used for:
Account security
Fraud and fake-account prevention
Impersonation and catfishing prevention
Investigation of safety complaints or reported accounts
Helping confirm that an account continues to belong to the verified individual
Protecting the safety and integrity of the Reel Circle community
Verification selfies are not displayed publicly to other users unless the user separately chooses to use the same or another photograph as a public profile photo.
Access to retained verification selfies is restricted to authorized personnel and systems with a legitimate security or safety need.
Reel Circle does not sell government-issued ID images or verification selfies.
5. How We Share Information
We may share information in the following circumstances:
With Other Users: Information you choose to make public, including your profile, posts, fishing trips, and other content, may be visible to other users according to Reel Circle’s available features and privacy settings.
Service Providers: We may provide information to vendors and service providers that assist us with services such as cloud hosting, security, identity verification, analytics, communications, and customer support. These providers may access information only as reasonably necessary to perform services on our behalf and subject to applicable contractual and legal requirements.
Advertising and Business Partners: We may work with advertising or business partners. Where applicable, information provided to these partners will be handled in accordance with applicable law and the choices available to you.
Safety and Legal Requirements: We may preserve or disclose information when we reasonably believe doing so is necessary to comply with applicable law or valid legal process, investigate fraud or misuse, enforce our agreements, respond to an emergency involving potential harm, or protect the rights, property, safety, and security of Reel Circle, our users, or others.
Business Transfers: Information may be transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, subject to applicable law.
6. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the ability to:
Access or update certain account information
Correct inaccurate personal information
Adjust available privacy settings
Control device permissions, including location and contacts
Opt out of certain promotional communications
Request access to certain personal information we maintain about you
Request correction or deletion of eligible personal information
Delete your Reel Circle account
Certain information may be retained when required or permitted by law or when reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or enforcement purposes.
7. Account Deletion
Users may request deletion of their Reel Circle account through the account deletion functionality provided by Reel Circle or by contacting Reel Circle Support.
Following a valid account deletion request, Reel Circle will delete or de-identify personal information associated with the account within a reasonable period, subject to information we are permitted or required to retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or other legitimate purposes.
A retained verification selfie associated with the account will also be deleted within a reasonable period following account deletion unless continued retention is required or permitted by applicable law for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.
8. Data Retention
Reel Circle retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
Our general retention practices include:
Government-issued ID images: Permanently deleted within 48 hours after successful identity and age verification.
Verification selfies: May be retained while the Reel Circle account remains active for the security and safety purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
Verification records: Limited records indicating that identity and age verification was successfully completed may be retained for account security, fraud prevention, recordkeeping, and compliance purposes.
Account information and user-generated content: Generally retained while the account remains active or as reasonably necessary to provide Reel Circle services.
Following account deletion, personal information will be deleted or de-identified within a reasonable period unless continued retention is required or permitted by applicable law or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or enforcement purposes.
9. Data Security
Reel Circle uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
Sensitive identity-verification information is subject to restricted access and should only be accessible to authorized personnel and systems with a legitimate business, verification, safety, or security need.
We use reasonable security measures appropriate to the nature of the information being processed. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Users are encouraged to use strong, unique passwords and protect access to their devices and Reel Circle accounts.
10. Children’s Privacy
Reel Circle is intended only for individuals who are at least 18 years old.
Individuals under the age of 18 are not permitted to create or maintain a Reel Circle account.
Our identity and age verification procedures are intended, in part, to help enforce this requirement.
If Reel Circle becomes aware that an individual under 18 has created an account or provided personal information to Reel Circle, we may suspend or terminate the account and take reasonable steps to delete associated personal information, subject to applicable legal requirements.
11. International Users
Reel Circle may store and process information in the United States and other countries where Reel Circle or its service providers operate.
Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes to Reel Circle, our services, technology, security practices, or applicable legal requirements.
If we make material changes, we may notify users through the Reel Circle app, by email, or through another appropriate method.
The “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when it was most recently revised.
